Amazon Strengthens Investments with Anthropic by $5 Billion

SadaNews - Amazon announced yesterday evening, Monday, that it is expanding its partnership with competitor Anthropic, the rival of "OpenAI", through a new multi-billion dollar investment.

Amazon stated that it will initially invest $5 billion in the company developing the chat robot "Claude", with the possibility of injecting additional investments that could reach up to $20 billion in the future.

At the same time, Anthropic will receive computing capacity of up to 5 gigawatts from current and future generations of Amazon's Trainium chips, to train and operate its advanced AI models.

Overall, the company developing "Claude" plans to spend more than $100 billion on semiconductors and computing power from Amazon over the next ten years.

Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company, is also the largest provider of cloud computing services through its Amazon Web Services arm.

Amazon has already been one of the main supporters of Anthropic, having previously invested $8 billion in the company.

Anthropic, the competitor of OpenAI which developed "ChatGPT", has been one of the companies that made headlines in recent months, including due to tensions with the U.S. government.

The company stated that its AI models should not be used in autonomous weapon systems or in mass surveillance within the U.S.

Later, the Pentagon classified Anthropic as a risk factor to supply chains, a decision that the company is challenging in court.

In a more recent development, Anthropic has sparked wide interest with the launch of the "Claude Mythos Preview" model designed to discover software vulnerabilities that may have gone undetected for years.

In the wrong hands, this technology could be used as a cyber weapon, but at the same time, it helps governments and companies strengthen their systems.

Anthropic does not intend to release "Mythos Preview" to the public.
