Trump: Agreement with Iran Will Happen "the Easy Way or the Hard Way"
SadaNews - US President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that the agreement with Iran will happen either the easy way or the hard way, adding that Tehran has one last chance.
In a statement to ABC, he said, "The agreement will happen one way or another, the easy way or the hard way."
Simultaneously, Trump wrote in a post on "Truth Social" that Iran fired "gunshots" in the Strait of Hormuz yesterday, calling it a "total violation" of the ceasefire agreement. He added that some of those shots targeted a French ship and another belonging to the United Kingdom.
He also noted that Iran recently announced the closing of the Strait of Hormuz, calling it "strange," given the ongoing blockade he said his country imposes on Tehran. He mentioned that closing the strait harms Iran itself, citing daily losses of up to 500 million dollars, while stating that the United States does not incur losses in this regard, pointing to ships heading towards American ports in Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska "to load shipments."
The US president clarified that an American delegation will head to Islamabad, Pakistan for negotiations, arriving tomorrow evening.
He also added that Washington has presented a "fair and reasonable offer" to Iran, expressing hope for its acceptance, while warning that if rejected, the United States will target energy facilities and bridges in Iran, he claimed.
"Major Disagreements"
This came as Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf hinted late Saturday to Sunday about progress in negotiations with the United States, but confirmed that "there are still major disagreements."
Qalibaf, who participated in talks last week in Islamabad, affirmed, "We are still far from a final agreement," adding in an interview with Iranian television, "We have made progress in negotiations, but there are still many gaps and some core issues pending."
He continued, "There is still a big distance between us... there are some points that we insist on... and they also have red lines. But these issues may only be one or two."
This comes as Pakistani efforts continue to push both sides towards a settlement or agreement to end the war that erupted on February 28, before it was suspended for two weeks on April 8.
A high-level Pakistani delegation headed by Army Commander Asim Munir visited Tehran a few days ago. It was reported that Trump discussed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the details of the agreement with the Iranian side in a call made yesterday Saturday, attended by Vice President JD Vance and Secretaries of State Marco Rubio and Defense Pete Hegseth.
A statement from the US administration is expected later today, Sunday, following an emergency meeting Trump held in the White House Situation Room to discuss the renewed escalation around the Strait of Hormuz and the future of ongoing negotiations.
