For the third time.. Israeli incursion in southern Syria
SadaNews - Israeli forces have crossed into Quneitra province in southern Syria on Sunday evening for the third time in August.
The Syrian state TV channel, Al-Ikhbariya, reported that IDF troops infiltrated the village of Ain al-Abd in the Quneitra countryside, executing search operations inside one of the houses there.
The channel did not mention the outcome of the incursion, which marks the third occurrence in Quneitra province during August.
On Thursday, Israel stated that it had arrested several Syrians and seized weapons in Mount Hermon, claiming they were smuggling arms to Lebanon, without specifying whether the operation took place along the mountain near Quneitra or the Damascus countryside.
On August 11, an Israeli army patrol consisting of three vehicles crossed into the village of Al-Samdaniah Al-Gharbiyah in the Quneitra countryside, according to the Syrian news channel, without further details.
On the same day, Israeli army spokesperson Avichai Adraee claimed the arrest of an arms dealer in southern Syria.
On August 9, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that Israeli soldiers penetrated into cities and villages in Quneitra, setting up checkpoints to inspect passersby before withdrawing.
Damascus has repeatedly condemned the continuous Israeli violations of its sovereignty over its territories and affirmed its commitment to the ceasefire agreement reached between the two sides in 1974.
The Israeli army has repeatedly penetrated into Syria since the new Syrian administration took over in late December 2024, conducting airstrikes that killed civilians and destroyed locations, military vehicles, weapons, and ammunition belonging to the Syrian army.
For the past seven months, the Israeli army has occupied Mount Hermon and a security strip 15 kilometers wide in some areas in southern Syria, controlling more than 40,000 Syrians within the occupied buffer zone.
Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights, taking advantage of the events surrounding the overthrow of the ousted regime's head, Bashar al-Assad, in late 2024, thus expanding its area of occupation.
