Iran Rejects Qatari Proposal for a Tripartite Meeting with the U.S.

SadaNews - A regional source revealed today, Wednesday, that Qatar attempted to arrange a tripartite meeting with Tehran and Washington to hold direct negotiations on the outstanding issues in the agreement, but the Iranian side rejected it.

The source also mentioned that Iranian and American officials held parallel talks with Qatari mediators in Doha over the past two days, according to Axios.

This comes as a senior U.S. official reported that peace negotiations between the United States and Iran continued today, Wednesday, despite President Donald Trump's threats of new attacks against Tehran, as reported by Fox News.

The unnamed official said, "Negotiations are still ongoing," adding that Washington "will continue to exert maximum pressure to reach an agreement" with Tehran.

Bridging the Gaps

Earlier today, a well-informed official disclosed that Qatari negotiators traveled to Tehran this morning, Wednesday, in an attempt to finalize an agreement and bridge the gaps, following U.S. strikes on several sites in southern Iran and the Iranian response.

The visit was also indicated to have taken place after consultations with the United States, according to Reuters.

For his part, President Donald Trump vowed on Wednesday to Iran to expect new and severe attacks, accusing Tehran of "taking us for fools" in negotiations aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.

He added in statements to reporters from the White House that Washington "will strike again today, as we did yesterday."

He also clarified that his country seeks a "real and effective agreement," stressing that "Iran agreed not to possess nuclear weapons, and now they must sign."
