Trump Does Not Rule Out Resuming War with Iran

SadaNews: US President Donald Trump stated that there is a possibility that the United States may resume attacks on Iran.

In response to a question from a journalist in West Palm Beach, Florida, regarding the resumption of attacks against Tehran, Trump said: "There is a possibility that this could happen."

The US president described the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran as "very mild."

Trump added: "I have been briefed on the outlines of an agreement with Iran, and I will be provided with the exact text of it."

He went on to say: "I will soon study the plan that Iran just sent us," adding: "I cannot imagine that this plan would be acceptable."

Trump pointed out that Iran has "suffered extremely severe blows and will need 20 years to rebuild its capabilities."

Trump had said on Friday that the United States would not withdraw from its confrontation with Iran early.

Trump affirmed in a speech that his country "will not withdraw from its confrontation with Tehran early, only for the problem to resurface in three years."

Trump emphasized that the "Iranian proposal submitted is insufficient," adding: "We will not allow Iran to have nuclear weapons."

Trump noted that "it is difficult today to determine who is the leader in Iran. We are trying to find the leaders we can talk to."

Trump confirmed that the Iranian military had "suffered a crushing blow," adding: "We have the strongest submarines in the world and the strongest military."

On Saturday, Iran announced that the matter of negotiations is up to the United States to choose whether to seek a negotiated settlement or return to war.

Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi informed ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions residing in Tehran that Iran "has submitted its plan to the Pakistani mediator in order to permanently end the imposed war."

He explained that: "The ball is now in the court of the United States to choose the path of diplomacy or continue the confrontation approach."

Earlier on Saturday, a senior Iranian official stated that the Iranian proposal, which Trump rejects, stipulates opening the Strait of Hormuz to shipping and ending the US naval blockade on Iran, while postponing discussions on the Iranian nuclear program to a later stage.

After four weeks since the suspension of military operations, no agreement has been reached to end the war that has caused the largest disruption ever to global energy supplies.
