Report: Israel to Discuss Resuming War on Gaza on Sunday
SadaNews - The Israeli Security and Political Cabinet (the security cabinet) will meet on Sunday to discuss the resumption of the war on the Gaza Strip, at a time when a ceasefire agreement has been in effect since October 11, 2025, backed by the United States and several countries.
Cabinet ministers have been invited to a session that will address the resumption of the war on Gaza, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday after the cabinet did not convene on Thursday, according to Israeli public broadcasting "Kan 11".
An Israeli official stated that "Hamas is not adhering to the agreement and disarmament," pointing out that Tel Aviv is holding talks with mediators regarding this matter.
Israel had prevented representatives from the International Stability Force, which is part of the "Peace Council" chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, from entering Gaza and conducting a tour.
An Israeli official familiar with the details attributed this to Tel Aviv requiring concrete steps towards the disarmament of Hamas and the assumption of duties by a technocrat government before any progress can be made.
This comes at a time when Israel continues its violations and bombardments in Gaza since the fragile ceasefire agreement went into effect, as part of its evasion of completing the obligations of the first phase of the agreement, including the humanitarian protocol amid the catastrophic humanitarian conditions experienced by the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip.
The second phase of the agreement includes a broader withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip, which continues to occupy more than 50% of its area, and reconstruction, in exchange for the beginning of the disarmament of factions, which Israel has also failed to implement, insisting instead on disarmament first.
Meanwhile, Hamas continues its discussions with mediators and the UN Special Envoy for the "Peace Council," Nikolai Mladenov, in Cairo, Egypt, to "establish pathways for the full implementation of Trump's peace plan in the Gaza Strip," according to the movement's spokesperson Hazem Qassem.
He noted that the meetings also address "ensuring the implementation of what was stated in the first phase, particularly the humanitarian aspect of it, and entering into negotiations in parallel regarding the second phase with its various pathways."
In a related context, informed sources told Reuters that the U.S. administration intends to close the civilian military coordination center run by the U.S. military in Kiryat Gat, southern Israel. Critics see that the center has failed in its mission of monitoring the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and facilitating the flow of aid to besieged Palestinians.
Seven diplomats familiar with the operations of the U.S.-led center stated that it will be closed soon, and its responsibilities related to aid and monitoring will be transferred to the International Stability Force, which is scheduled to be deployed in Gaza under U.S. leadership. This was denied by the "Peace Council" in a tweet posted on X platform on Friday evening.
