US Air Force Plans to Purchase 5 Additional Boeing E-7A Aircraft
SadaNews - US Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall told a House subcommittee that the US Air Force plans to purchase five additional reconnaissance aircraft of the "Boeing E-7A Wedgetail" model, in addition to two prototypes that have already been contracted.
Concerns arose about the future of early warning and airborne control aircraft last year when the Department of Defense reversed its plans to purchase 26 "Boeing E-7A" aircraft to replace its fleet of similar planes dating back to the Cold War era.
This led NATO to cancel its plans to purchase six "Boeing E-7A" aircraft.
The United States had already committed to purchasing two prototypes of this model, which is based on the famous "Boeing 737" aircraft.
