7 Demands: What Does Iran Want in the Negotiations?
SadaNews – The Wall Street Journal reported from informed sources that Iranian representatives have informed the administration of President Donald Trump that Iran is setting high conditions for returning to negotiations.
According to the same sources, Tehran demands the closure of all American bases in the Gulf region, as well as compensation for the attacks that targeted Iran during the war.
The conditions also include imposing new arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, allowing Iran to levy fees on ships passing through it.
Iran is also demanding guarantees to prevent renewed conflict and to stop Israeli attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Moreover, Iran insists on a complete lifting of the sanctions imposed on it while maintaining its missile program without any negotiations to limit it.
In contrast, an American official described these demands as "unrealistic and absurd," considering that this high ceiling would make reaching an agreement more difficult than before the war broke out.
Axios reported from an informed source that the Iranian side informed the countries attempting to mediate in peace talks with the United States that they have been deceived twice by President Donald Trump, and they do not want to be deceived again.
The site added that the Iranian side informed the mediators "Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey" that U.S. military maneuvers and Trump's decision to deploy a large military buildup have increased their doubts that his proposal for peace talks is nothing but a ruse.
