The Permanent Mission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna Organizes a Briefing on the Latest Developments in Palestine
SadaNews - The Permanent Mission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna held a political and diplomatic briefing today, Thursday, on the latest developments in the State of Palestine, with the participation of representatives from several United Nations member states within the Group of Friends of Palestine.
The Permanent Observer, Ambassador Salah Abdul Shafi, affirmed during the briefing that the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip continues despite the ceasefire, pointing out that casualties are still falling and the humanitarian situation is worsening, amid a decline in international media interest in what is happening.
Abdul Shafi warned about the dangerous recent decisions issued by the Israeli cabinet regarding deepening settlement and imposing actual steps to annex the West Bank, considering them a serious violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, and a direct undermining of the peace process references and signed agreements.
Abdul Shafi pointed to the targeting of the main headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Jerusalem, emphasizing that this constitutes a serious violation of United Nations institutions and reflects an escalating approach against international institutions operating in the State of Palestine.
Abdul Shafi condemned the campaigns targeting the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, emphasizing the importance of protecting United Nations mechanisms and ensuring their independence.
The briefing witnessed interventions from representatives of several countries such as Egypt, Jordan, South Africa, Russia, China, Pakistan, Korea, Turkey, Tunisia, Iran, and Venezuela, where they affirmed their countries' supportive positions for the rights of the Palestinian people, the necessity to stop the aggression, and to respect international law and the relevant United Nations resolutions.
