Report: Internet penetration in Jordan exceeds the global average by 28%
SadaNews - A local official survey revealed an increase in Jordanian integration into the digital world, with the percentage of Jordanians (aged over five years) using the internet reaching 95.6% in the year before last, according to Al-Ghad newspaper.
The survey, conducted by the Department of Statistics in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, showed that this percentage is considered very high, indicating the extent of Jordanians' connection to the service, surpassing the Arab average of 69.6% and the global average of 67.6%.
The survey, the results of which were announced by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship a few days ago, confirmed that the internet usage rate among individuals in Jordan in 2024 has increased from the rate recorded in the previous year, 2023, which was 92.5%.
The Communications and Information Technology Usage and Penetration Survey, which covered the year 2024, aims to provide a comprehensive database for the use of information and communication technology among families and individuals in Jordan.
Furthermore, the survey results indicated that the percentage of Jordanians aged five years and older who use the internet daily reached approximately 94.8% in 2024. The rate of usage from home was the highest, amounting to about 98%, while mobile usage was 65.1%, and public place usage stood at 47.7%.
The figures and estimates indicate that the number of internet users in the kingdom today is around 11 million, of which 8 million use the internet via smartphones, distributed across various wired internet service technologies like fiber and wireless technologies such as 4G and 5G mobile networks.
In a related context, the communication usage survey in Jordanian homes showed that Jordanians use mobile phones extensively, with the percentage of individuals aged five years and older owning mobile phones reaching approximately 88.4%, which is higher than the Arab average of about 83.1% and the global average of 79.7%.
The survey results indicated that the percentage of households with at least one mobile phone reached approximately 99.6% in 2024, while the percentage of households with at least one smartphone was 97.5%, and the percentage of households with a landline was only 3.7%. The landline phone has seen a decline due to the widespread availability of mobile phones.
Regarding computer usage in the kingdom, the survey results showed that the percentage of computer devices of all types in Jordanian homes was approximately 42.4% in 2024, compared to 36.4% in the previous year, 2023.
The survey results highlighted the distribution of devices by type, with the penetration rate for desktop computers at about 15.2%, and for laptops at 34.3%, while tablets reached approximately 21.6%.
The results indicated that the percentage of Jordanians aged five years and older using computers in 2024 reached about 34.7%, up from 30.7% in 2023.
