Occupation: Rafah Crossing to Open in Coming Days for Departures from Gaza
SadaNews - The Israeli occupation army announced that the Rafah crossing will be opened in the coming days to those departing from the Gaza Strip, as part of a ceasefire agreement and directives from the political leadership.
The coordinator of the occupation government clarified that the opening of the crossing will be dedicated solely for the exit of residents towards Egypt, in coordination with the Egyptian authorities, and after obtaining security approval from the Israeli side, as translated by SadaNews.
According to the statement, the exit process will be supervised by a European Union mission, following the same mechanism that was used in early January 2025, ensuring organized and jointly monitored transit by the concerned parties.
It is worth noting that on May 7, 2024, the Israeli occupation army confirmed it had controlled the Rafah land crossing that connects the Gaza Strip with Egypt, following intensive military operations around the crossing.
The control included the Palestinian side of the crossing, which is the only gateway for the people of Gaza to the outside world, apart from the crossings controlled by Israel.
According to media reports, Israel justified this step as necessary for "monitoring the entry of humanitarian aid" into Gaza, while Egypt and the Palestinians considered it a violation of the Camp David Accords that regulate the security situation along the border.
