Saifi Gharib as Prime Minister.. The Algerian government announces the members of the new government
SadaNews - The Algerian presidency announced the members of a new government led by Saifi Gharib as Prime Minister, marking the sixth in the era of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who came to power at the end of 2019.
This was announced in a statement read by the spokesperson for the Algerian presidency, Samir Akoun, as broadcasted by the state television.
The government was appointed following the designation of the interim Prime Minister, Saifi Gharib, on Sunday, as Prime Minister and tasked with forming the executive apparatus.
Notably, this partial cabinet reshuffle retained most ministers of sovereign portfolios, such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Ataf, the Minister of Finance, Abdelkarim Boualzard, and the Minister of Justice, Lotfi Boujmâa.
Said Chengriha also retained his position as Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the Army.
Conversely, a change occurred in the interior ministry, which was expanded to include transportation and was taken over by Said Sayoud, the former Minister of Transportation, and its name was changed to the Ministry of Interior, Local Communities, and Transportation.
Former Minister of Interior Ibrahim Mourad was designated as a Minister of State in charge of the inspection of state and local community affairs.
Among the notable changes was in the Ministry of Energy, which is one of the most crucial portfolios in the country, considering the Arab country's excessive reliance on oil and gas.
Mohamed Arkab was appointed as Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, after having been in charge of energy, mines, and renewable energies in the previous government.
In line with this change, Mourad Ajaal was appointed as Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, having previously served as the CEO of the state electricity and gas company Sonelgaz.
The new government also saw the entry of other names, with Yahya Bachir appointed Minister of Industry succeeding Saifi Gharib, who rose to the position of Prime Minister.
Abdelmalek Tashrift took over the Ministry of Mujahideen (Veterans) instead of Al-Aid Rabika, while the Ministry of Internal Trade and Market Regulation was assigned to Amal Abdellatif, the former General Director of Taxes, succeeding Tayeb Zeitouni.
The change also included the Ministry of Communication (Media), where Zuhair Bouamama was appointed as Minister of the sector, succeeding Mohamed Meziane.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security went to Abdul Haq Sayhi, who left the Ministry of Health to take charge of the social sector, while Mohamed Sidik Ait Massoudan took over the health portfolio in his first entry into the government team.
The name Abdelkader Jlawy also emerged, the wali (governor) of the coastal state of Annaba (East), who was appointed Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, succeeding Engineer Lakhdar Rekhrukh, while the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries was assigned to Yassine Mahdi Walid, succeeding Youssef Sharfa.
