Police: 45 Murder Cases in 2025, a 10% Decrease Compared to the Previous Year

SadaNews - The police spokesperson, Brigadier General Louay Arzeqat, confirmed that the annual statistics for 2025 revealed the recording of 45 murder cases resulting in the deaths of 48 citizens, including 41 males and 7 females, reflecting a 10% decrease compared to 2024, which witnessed 50 murder cases. This decline indicates a positive sign of the effectiveness of security measures and preventive efforts aimed at reducing crime and enhancing community peace.

The statistics showed that Jenin Governorate topped the list with the highest number of murder cases at 10, followed by Hebron, Jerusalem, and Nablus Governorates, each with 7-8 cases, while no murders were recorded in Bethlehem and Salfit Governorates, which is an important indicator reflecting the disparity in security conditions among the governorates and the need for continued preventive and awareness efforts.

Regarding the motives and reasons, Arzeqat clarified that disputes and family conflicts were the main reasons for murder cases at 31.3%, followed by honor-related murders at 8.3%, and financial disputes at 6.3%, in addition to other miscellaneous causes such as negligence, drug use, inheritance disputes, and others, emphasizing the necessity of promoting a culture of dialogue and peacefully resolving conflicts within the community.

In terms of age groups most susceptible to murder, the data showed that the group aged 45 and older constituted the highest percentage at 25%, followed by the age group of 27-35 years at 22.9%, and then the group under 18 years at 20.9%, highlighting the need for community protection programs targeting various age groups according to the specificity of each category.

The statistics also revealed that firearms were the most commonly used means in murder cases, utilized in 25 cases, accounting for 52.1%, followed by sharp and hard tools in 12 cases, or 25%, while other means such as run-over incidents, physical assaults, and arson were recorded at limited rates, highlighting the need for stricter control over illegal firearms. The police, in its efforts to monitor this issue, managed to confiscate (457) firearms last year, and it is also crucial to enhance community awareness of the dangers of violence.

Arzeqat pointed out that the Public Investigations Department and various police departments were able to solve 38 cases completely, while seven cases remained under investigation.
