Lebanon's President Condemns Israeli Violations in the South Despite Ceasefire
SadaNews - Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the "continuous" Israeli "violations" of the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, calling for "pressure" to be exerted on the Hebrew state to stop attacks targeting civilians and rescuers.
Aoun stated, during his meeting with a delegation from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, that "Israeli violations continue in the south despite the announcement of a ceasefire, as well as the demolition and bulldozing of homes and places of worship, while the number of victims and wounded is rising day by day".
He added, "There must be pressure on Israel to respect international laws and agreements and to cease targeting civilians, rescuers, civil defense and health and humanitarian relief organizations".
This comes as Lebanese official media reported a series of Israeli airstrikes on various areas in the south of the country resulting in casualties.
Earlier, Aoun affirmed that Israel must implement the ceasefire "fully" before engaging in any direct negotiations, noting that Beirut is awaiting Washington to set a date for their commencement.
He stated, "Israel must definitively understand that the only path to security is through negotiations, but it must first fully implement the ceasefire before moving on to negotiations", adding: "Israeli attacks should not continue as they are after the announcement of a ceasefire".
