The European Union Condemns Israeli Decision to Establish New Settlements in the West Bank

SadaNews - The official spokesperson for the European Union announced that the recent Israeli decision to establish more than 30 new settlements in the occupied West Bank is illegal under international law. The statement emphasized that this step severely undermines the prospects for peace and the two-state solution.

The European Union strongly condemned the unilateral Israeli actions aimed at expanding its presence in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, reminding of the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice issued on July 19, 2024, which declared these actions illegal. The statement urged the Israeli government to reverse these decisions, fulfill its obligations under international law, and protect the Palestinian population in the occupied territories.

The statement also expressed the EU's condemnation of the ongoing and escalating violence of settlers against Palestinian civilians, stressing the rejection of these increasing practices in the region.

Finally, the European Union reiterated its commitment to a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions, ensuring the coexistence of two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, side by side in peace and security within recognized borders.
