French Foreign Minister Criticizes US Strikes in the Caribbean
SadaNews - French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot criticized the strikes carried out by the United States against alleged drug traffickers in the Caribbean and the Pacific.
The minister stated in a comment to the "France Presse" agency: "(The United States, by carrying out these strikes, has exceeded) the provisions of international law and maritime law."
He expressed his concern about the tense situation in the region.
At the same time, the minister reaffirmed the French authorities' determination to combat the explosive growth of drug trafficking in Europe, describing it as a matter concerning the security of the French people.
Barrot had previously stated that France would promote the fight against drug trafficking by enhancing the work of its embassies in Latin American countries.
In September and October, the United States repeatedly used its armed forces to destroy boats near the coasts of Venezuela that were alleged to be transporting drugs. American television (NBC) reported at the end of September that the U.S. armed forces were considering options to carry out strikes against drug traffickers within Venezuela.
In November, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his opinion that Nicolás Maduro's days at the helm of Venezuela were numbered, while confirming that Washington was not planning to enter into a war with Caracas.
