Egypt: 15 Million Tourists Received During the First 9 Months of 2025
SadaNews - Egypt received 15 million tourists during the first 9 months of this year, a growth of 21% year-on-year, bringing it closer to its target of 18 million tourists by the end of the year.
Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, stated that "the number of tourists recorded 8.7 million in the first six months of the year, then rose to 12.8 million by the end of August, and reached about 15 million by the end of September."
He added that the current numbers "indicate the ease with which Egypt will reach its target by the end of the year, welcoming between 17.5 and 18 million tourists."
The tourism sector is one of the most important sources of foreign currency in the country. Last year, Egypt received 15.78 million tourists, which is the highest recorded level ever.
The minister did not go into details regarding the revenues achieved from tourism during the first nine months of the year. Data from the Central Bank of Egypt showed that tourism revenues in 2024 increased by 9% year-on-year, reaching 15.3 billion dollars.
Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Russia topped the incoming tourism movement to Egypt in 2024, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, as reported by Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.
Opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum
Fathy pointed out that with the complete opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum in early November, the number of visitors will "increase to nearly three times the current number, which ranges between 5,000 and 6,000 visitors daily."
The Grand Egyptian Museum is located one mile from the Giza Pyramids and has been in development for nearly two decades. It is expected to provide a boost to the vital tourism sector, according to Bloomberg.
Egyptian authorities expect that this tourist site, which spans 120 acres, with many of its halls already opened, will attract about 5 million visitors annually. As the largest archaeological museum in the world, it is set to house around 100,000 artifacts, including items from the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
