Estimates: 40 Million Tons of Rubble in Gaza Need $2.5 Billion for Removal
SadaNews Translation - The owner of a contracting company specialized in debris removal revealed on Friday that the massive amount of rubble in the Gaza Strip, after more than two and a half years since the war, is estimated at around 40 million tons.
Doreen Karadi, the director of Taylor Karadi, estimated the cost of removing this rubble to be approximately $2.5 billion.
Karadi indicated, as reported by the Hebrew newspaper Maariv and translated by SadaNews, that debris management in the Gaza Strip differs from the situation in Israel, after her company removed debris following Iranian attacks during the war.
She specified that the situation in the Gaza Strip requires establishing sites within it for processing, sorting, and recycling operations near the rubble itself, emphasizing that the task of transporting the debris to Israel is an impossible mission.
She estimated that debris processing in the Strip will take between 8 and 10 years, noting that this is an approximation because there is no accurate information about the volume of the rubble and official data, and it is not wise to rely solely on estimates, she said.
She pointed out that her company is preparing for the option of establishing a crushing station within the Strip, and processing the rubble there, with its location being in a security-isolated area, indicating that this process will also take a long time, reaching years even if working in shifts day and night.
