Energy Authority Launches Strategic Projects to Enhance the Electricity Sector in Hebron

SadaNews - The head of the Energy and Natural Resources Authority, Engineer Ayman Ismail, announced today, Sunday, the launch of a series of vital projects in the Hebron Governorate, following the visit of Prime Minister Dr. Mohammed Mustafa to the governorate last Thursday, where he was briefed on its conditions and discussed its needs.

The Government Communication Center indicated in a statement that these projects aim to enhance the efficiency of the electrical network, ensure supply stability, and meet the growing demand for electricity, as part of the "Energy Security" initiative launched by the Palestinian government within the national development and growth program. It is expected to provide more than 30% of the current capacity during the coming year, and 200 megawatts additional over the next four years.

Below are the most significant projects that the Energy Authority is working on in Hebron Governorate:
• Expansion of the Beit Olla transformer station: Installation of a new 50 megawatt transformer, at a cost of 3.3 million USD, which will increase the operational capacity of the station and provide an additional 30 megawatts for the city of Hebron.

• Construction of a double-circuit medium voltage line, 17 km long, with a maximum transmission capacity of 40 megawatts, linking Beit Olla station and the city of Hebron, at a cost of 3.5 million USD.

• Smart Meter Project: Supplying Hebron Electricity Company with 17,000 smart meters to reduce losses, detect violations, and improve service.

• Efforts are underway to secure 20 million USD to establish a new electrical reduction station with a capacity of 200 megawatts, to cover the growth in electricity demand for more than ten years.

• Solar energy project, which has received necessary support from the Chinese government with a capacity of 30 megawatts, to enhance national reliance on renewable energy and reduce the external import bill.

These projects represent an important step towards achieving national energy security and building an advanced and flexible electrical infrastructure capable of facing future challenges, thus achieving sustainable development in Palestine.
