New York Times: Trump Considered Appointing Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as President of Iran

SadaNews - The New York Times reported that American officials said the Israeli strike targeting the residence of former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the start of the war with Iran aimed to free him from house arrest by killing his guards and releasing him.

The newspaper stated that the strike was part of an American and Israeli plan aimed at regime change and installing Ahmadinejad in power.

Officials added that the plan failed after Ahmadinejad was injured in the attack, noting that his whereabouts remain unknown.

The newspaper also highlighted that the authorities in Iran have charged Ahmadinejad with collaborating with the West and spying for Israel, clarifying that the way he was recruited remains unclear.

The party of former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denied reports of his death at the beginning of March.

The Iranian official news agency "ILNA" had previously reported that Ahmadinejad, aged "69", was killed in an airstrike targeting Tehran.

The agency mentioned that he died at his home located in eastern Tehran alongside his personal guard.
