American Deal to Arm South Korea with $4.2 Billion
SadaNews - The United States has agreed to sell South Korea military helicopters worth a total of $4.2 billion, in a move aimed at enhancing Seoul's defensive capabilities.
The U.S. State Department stated that it has approved a deal to sell 24 "Sea Hawk Romeo" maritime helicopters valued at $3 billion, along with another deal worth $1.2 billion to upgrade the South Korean army's "Apache" helicopters.
The department confirmed that the deal "will enhance the Republic of Korea's capability to address current and future threats" and will provide a more effective force in deterring adversaries.
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung had pledged during a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump to purchase $25 billion worth of U.S. military equipment by 2030.
