"Roaad al-Bashan".. Israelis invade Syrian territories and demand the establishment of a settlement outpost
SadaNews - At least 4 Israelis from the "Roaad al-Bashan" settlement movement invaded Syrian territory today, Sunday, while dozens of its members demonstrated near the border fence demanding the Israeli government’s approval to allow settlement to begin in the area they refer to as "al-Bashan" located in southern Syria.
According to the Israeli site "Srugim", dozens of movement activists arrived early this morning at the border fence in the town of Majdal Shams - which was occupied by Israel in 1967 - at the foot of Mount Hermon, and they chained themselves to the fence in protest, directing their demands to ministers in the security cabinet (the "kabinett"), calling for "allowing families to settle in the place legally".
The activists stated, according to Srugim, that they "will not back down and will not stop until the right-wing government allows the families who wish to enter and settle in al-Bashan in an organized and legal manner".
The settlers continued, "The elections are approaching, and no one knows what the future holds. The government must not allow the achievements of war to evaporate".
The settlement movement published a video documenting the invasion of at least 4 of its activists to Mount Hermon located in the southern Syrian governorates of Damascus countryside and Quneitra.
The movement stated, "Continuing from the activities of the first and second days of the month of Sivan (the third month in the Hebrew calendar) - which corresponds to the days of the Six-Day War when Israel occupied the Golan - two additional groups crossed in the way to encircle Hermon (Mount Hermon), one of which was detained (and released immediately), while the second group is still climbing the mountain".
Members of the settlement movement have invaded Syrian territory multiple times over the past two months, without interference from Israeli security forces, or being held for a short period before being released.
Government Support
For his part, the military correspondent for the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, Itai Blumental, stated on X platform that "the criminals from the Roaad al-Bashan group receive support and encouragement from members of the government coalition and ministers".
Blumenthal reported that they "recently received a certificate of appreciation from Limor Son Har-Melech (Deputy Speaker of the Knesset). There are also other meetings with ministers and Knesset members".
Blumenthal published a photo showing Har-Melech honoring activists from the settlement movement, as well as a photo of movement activists alongside Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi.
Following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024, Israel occupied the Syrian security buffer zone and declared the collapse of the ceasefire agreement signed between the two sides since 1974.
