Martyrs and Injured in Attacks on Lebanon; Soldier Killed and Others Injured, and an Evacuation Helicopter 'Malfunctioned'
SadaNews - A number of Lebanese have been martyred and others injured on Monday due to Israeli airstrikes on several towns in southern Lebanon, including Yater, Haris, and Aaba, while paramedics were injured during an airstrike on the town of Tole, amid ongoing Israeli escalation in Lebanese territory.
The Israeli military announced today, Monday, that a soldier was killed and three others were injured with what it described as "minor" injuries due to attacks by Hezbollah using booby-trapped drones against its forces in southern Lebanon and at the border. It also stated that one of the evacuation helicopters transporting injured soldiers landed in southern Lebanon "unable to take off again due to a malfunction," necessitating another helicopter to evacuate the injured soldiers. The Israeli military noted that the malfunctioning helicopter later took off safely after repairs.
This comes as the Israeli military continues its attacks and airstrikes on border towns in southern Lebanon, despite the ceasefire agreement being in effect since April 17, amid escalating shelling and demolition operations of homes and mutual targeting with Hezbollah.
Reports indicated that the Israeli military recently introduced hundreds of "Khanjar" smart sights designated for small arms to enhance its capabilities against the drones used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
In contrast, Hezbollah announced carrying out several operations targeting gatherings and vehicles of the Israeli military in response to what it described as the occupation's violations of the ceasefire agreement and its ongoing assaults on southern villages.
Politically, the United States announced the hosting of a round of talks between Lebanon and Israel on May 14 and 15, aiming to reach an agreement that includes security arrangements, border demarcation, and reconstruction. Conversely, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam emphasized the importance of establishing a ceasefire and halting Israeli assaults before making any progress in the negotiating process.
