Macron Announces Death of Second French Soldier from UNIFIL Forces After Injuries in Southern Lebanon
Sada News - French President Emmanuel Macron announced the death of a second French soldier on Wednesday "due to his injuries" sustained in an ambush during the weekend targeting United Nations peacekeeping forces in Lebanon, known as "UNIFIL," which was attributed to "Hezbollah."
Another soldier was shot dead in the ambush on Saturday, for which "Hezbollah" denied responsibility, while the soldier who died on Wednesday was one of three soldiers wounded in the same attack, according to the "French Press Agency."
Macron wrote on the platform "X": "Corporal Anisette Girardin, from the (132nd Infantry Regiment) of the (SUIB Brigade), who was repatriated yesterday from Lebanon where he was seriously injured by (Hezbollah) fighters, died this morning (Wednesday) as a result of his injuries."
He added: "He fell in the service of France. The nation, which will honor the memory of Officer Florian Montourio who fell in the same ambush tomorrow, mourns Corporal Anisette Girardin and his sacrifice. It also expresses its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to his family and loved ones, as well as to the families of the other injured. The nation praises the exemplary dedication of our armed forces within the (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon - UNIFIL), which works courageously and determinedly in service of France and peace in Lebanon."
