America withdraws its forces from Qasrk base in Syria to Iraqi Kurdistan

SadaNews - On Monday morning, U.S. forces began withdrawing their military personnel from Syria to Iraqi Kurdistan, starting from the Qasrk base, the largest U.S. base in the northwestern countryside of Hasakah.

This operation is part of a plan to redeploy American troops in the region, under close observation by local and international parties.

The U.S. forces completed their presence at the Al-Shaddadi military base south of Hasakah after a withdrawal process that lasted more than ten days, characterized by heavy air and ground transport of personnel and equipment.

The first phase of the withdrawal involved relocating soldiers and reinforcements from the Al-Shaddadi and Al-Omar fields in Deir ez-Zor, in preparation for their later transfer to the Qasrk base.

Following the withdrawal, the Syrian army officially took control of the base after direct coordination with Washington. U.S. forces conducted a series of transport flights on the international "M4" road to move equipment and personnel from the base, which is considered the second largest of their bases in Syria after Qasrk.

These withdrawals are part of Washington's plan to gradually reduce its presence in Syria since mid-2025, including sites in the Deir ez-Zor and Hasakah countrysides, such as the Al-Omar field, Conico, and Tal Bidar base.

Last week, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced the handover of the Al-Shaddadi military base to the Syrian Arab Army in the northeastern part of the country, following coordination with the U.S. forces, which evacuated the site in recent days.

The Syrian state news agency (SANA) reported from the ministry that the base had come under the control of the Syrian army in the Hasakah countryside after coordination with the U.S. side.

The Al-Shaddadi base previously housed U.S. forces as part of the international coalition against ISIS and is located within the areas of influence of the Kurdish forces in Hasakah province. The base is situated on the outskirts of the town of Al-Shaddadi, which previously housed a prison managed by the Kurdish forces for detaining members of the organization, before government forces advanced to the area last month.
