Yemeni Presidential Council: An Iranian Flight to Sanaa Is a Flagrant Violation of Sovereignty
SadaNews - The Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council stated on Friday evening that the operation of a direct flight from Iran to Sanaa Airport, which is under the control of the Houthi group, is a "flagrant violation of Yemen's sovereignty and a challenge to international law and Security Council resolutions."
The council, in an extraordinary emergency meeting chaired by President Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, said that "this serious escalation reaffirms the complete subjugation of the Houthi militias to the Iranian project, prioritizing the interests of this rogue regime over the interests of the Yemeni people, and using state institutions and outlets to serve its agenda that undermines Yemen's sovereignty, security, and stability," according to the Yemeni News Agency.
The council also emphasized that "this violation extends the behavior of the Houthi militias, which have consistently undermined all opportunities for peace and rejected regional and international initiatives aimed at ending the war, foremost among them the initiatives and efforts tirelessly led by our brothers in Saudi Arabia and international partners to achieve lasting peace that ends the suffering of the Yemeni people."
Moreover, the Presidential Leadership Council stated in its statement that this dangerous development does not solely target the Republic of Yemen but represents a direct threat to regional and international security, and a new message confirming that the Iranian regime continues to violate international law and use armed militias as tools to destabilize the region.
The council stressed that the Yemeni state will bear all its constitutional and legal responsibilities in protecting its sovereignty and addressing any attempts to undermine it, taking all political, diplomatic, legal, and security measures that international law guarantees to uphold the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen and protect its legitimate institutions.
The Presidential Leadership Council also praised the Saudi role and the efforts of regional and international partners in supporting stability in Yemen, affirming that these efforts have continually faced the intransigence of the Houthi militias and their complete subservience to the Iranian regime.
The council warned the Iranian regime against continuing this escalatory approach, holding the Houthi militias fully responsible for all consequences resulting from these violations and for any threat to the security of Yemen and the region and to international peace and security.
The Presidential Leadership Council called on the United Nations, the Security Council, and all regional and international partners to take deterrent measures to stop Iranian violations, tighten monitoring of channels supporting, arming, and financing the Houthi militias, and prevent the use of Yemeni territory and airspace to serve transnational destructive projects.
Earlier on Friday, the Houthi militia announced the arrival of an Iranian civilian plane at Sanaa International Airport, claiming it transported more than 200 patients and stranded individuals to Yemen, before departing with a delegation of militia leaders heading to the Iranian capital, Tehran.
Houthi-affiliated media reported that the delegation was headed to Tehran to participate in the funeral ceremonies of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, as announced by the group.
