Peruvian Electoral Authorities Announce Keiko Fujimori's Victory in Presidential Elections
SadaNews - The electoral authorities in Peru have announced the victory of conservative politician Keiko Fujimori in the presidential election runoff, according to the Associated Press.
Keiko Fujimori, who is 51 years old and the daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori, is running for the presidency for the fourth time. She will be Peru's ninth president in 10 years when she assumes office later this month.
The National Jury of Elections confirmed her victory late Friday to Saturday. The figures released by election officials earlier this week showed that after counting 100 percent of the votes, Fujimori received 9,223,000 votes, which is 50.135 percent of the total, while Nationalist deputy Roberto Sánchez received more than 9,173,000 votes, which is 49.865 percent.
Fujimori and Sánchez qualified for the runoff on June 7 after defeating 33 other candidates in the April vote.
