SadaNews - Sharp decline in consumer goods prices in the Gaza Strip during October 2025

Following the announcement of a ceasefire, the consumer price index recorded a sharp decline of 40.42% in the Gaza Strip compared to September 2025, while the index recorded an increase in Jerusalem J1* by 0.36%, and by 0.17% in the West Bank**, resulting in an overall consumer price index decline of 23.04% in Palestine.

In general, price levels are experiencing sharp fluctuations between increases and decreases in the Gaza Strip, linked to developments in the Israeli aggression and the movement of commercial crossings, and not as a result of changes arising from market factors. Consequently, their impact is significant on the overall price index of the Palestinian territories. These data must be considered when reading the cost of living index, and focus should be placed on changes in the cost of living at the regional level to ascertain the reality of changes within it. Given the uniqueness of this exceptional phase, it is not possible to use the average overall price index of the Palestinian territories to represent the average changes across different areas, due to the sharp variation in data regionally and its significant influence by price changes in the Gaza Strip.

When comparing prices in October 2025 with October 2024, data indicate a decrease in the consumer price index in Palestine by 17.08% (31.25% in the Gaza Strip, and 1.32% in the West Bank**, while the index rose by 1.71% in Jerusalem J1*).
