The Central Elections Commission Confirms the Mandatory Minimum Representation of Women in Candidate Municipal Lists
SadaNews - The Central Elections Commission issued a clarification regarding the condition of women's representation in lists nominated for membership in municipal councils, confirming that the law governing local council elections requires lists to include a minimum representation of women as a fundamental condition for submitting the list and accepting its registration.
The Commission explained that if one of the female candidates withdraws during the legally specified nomination period, resulting in a decline in the percentage of women's representation below the stipulated minimum, it will address the concerned list to rectify the issue, either by replacing the withdrawn candidate with another candidate to ensure compliance with the legal quota, or by retracting the withdrawal request; otherwise, the Commission will be forced to reject the registration of the list.
It is worth noting that the law stipulates that women's representation in the electoral list for municipal councils should be as follows: three women in bodies with (11) seats, and four women in bodies with (13 or 15) seats.
