Kallas Calls for a "Diplomatic Solution" on Iran: We Don't Want Another War
SadaNews - The European Union's foreign affairs chief, Kaia Kallas, called on Monday for a "diplomatic solution" regarding Iran, ahead of anticipated talks between Tehran and Washington, at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump threatens to carry out strikes against Tehran.
Kallas stated, before a meeting of EU foreign ministers: "We do not need another war in this region; we already have enough wars as it is."
She added, according to the French Press Agency: "It is true that Iran is going through its weakest phase ever. We must seize this timing to find a diplomatic solution."
Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr al-Busaidi, announced on Sunday that a new round of negotiations between the United States and Iran is set to take place in Geneva next Thursday, confirming a "positive momentum for additional efforts" towards reaching a final agreement.
The United States demands that Iran abandon its stockpile of enriched uranium, which Washington claims could be used to make a bomb, halt support for armed groups in the Middle East, and agree to impose restrictions on its missile program.
In return, Tehran asserts that its nuclear program is peaceful, but it shows willingness to accept some restrictions in exchange for the lifting of financial sanctions, and refuses to link the nuclear issue to other matters such as missiles or support for armed groups.
