Who is the new minister?
Born in March 1969 in Inverness, Southern Highlands in Scotland, she studied economics and political science.
In 1997, she became a member of the Westminster Parliament, and in 2005, she took the position of Minister of State for Housing and Planning in Tony Blair's government.
In 2008, she became the Secretary General of the Treasury in Gordon Brown's government, and in 2009, she held the position of Minister of State for Employment and Pensions in Brown's government.
Between 2010 and 2011, she served as Shadow Foreign Secretary under Ed Miliband's leadership.
In 2015, she ran for the leadership of the Labour Party, which was won by Jeremy Corbyn.
In 2021, she served as Home Secretary in the Shadow Cabinet under Keir Starmer's leadership.
In July 2024, she took the position of Home Secretary in Starmer's government.
In September 2025, she became Foreign Secretary in Starmer's government.
