Election Commission: 1,040,000 citizens eligible to vote in local elections

SadaNews - The Central Election Commission announced today, Tuesday, that the final number of voters in the bodies where local elections will be held on April 25 has reached 1,040,000 citizens eligible to vote, which represents 67% of the total voter registry.

The commission also announced this morning the publication of the final list of candidates in the municipalities and candidates in the village councils on its official website www.elections.ps.

The final list of candidates indicates that the number of local bodies where elections will take place has reached (184) out of (421), including the city of Deir al-Balah, with (91) municipal councils competing with (324) electoral lists, and (93) village councils with (1,358) candidates.

According to its data, the number of local bodies (municipalities and village councils) that will form their council by acclamation has reached (197), while the number of bodies where no lists or candidates have registered has reached (40).

The commission pointed out that the final list was approved after the objection, appeal, and withdrawal period ended, in accordance with the previously announced legal timeframe.

It noted that, according to the law, election campaigning will begin on April 10 for a duration of 14 days and is prohibited before this date.

It emphasized that any form of election campaigning during this period is considered a violation of the law and affirmed the necessity for all lists and candidates to adhere to the procedures regulating the electoral process.
