Translation by SadaNews - The Hebrew-speaking channel i24NEWS revealed on Friday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will hold a session today for the first discussion on the initiative of Minister of Economy Nir Barkat to separate the Hebron Governorate from the rest of the West Bank, so that it is not under the control of the Palestinian Authority.

According to the channel, as translated by SadaNews, it is expected that ministers Israel Katz and Nir Barkat will participate in the discussion, which will be held in Netanyahu's office, along with prominent figures in the security establishment, with the aim of exploring the possibility of replacing the Palestinian Authority's rule in the governorate with local tribes and establishing an independent emirate.

The channel indicated that this new entity would recognize Israel as a Jewish state and join the Abraham Accords.

The channel noted that the Shin Bet security service opposes such a move and sees the Palestinian Authority as a key player in "fighting terrorism," and publicly refused to comment on this issue and what is raised in closed discussions.

The channel stated that implementing this plan could undermine the idea of establishing a Palestinian state under the control of the Palestinian Authority.

According to a report published last month in the American Wall Street Journal, the plan crafted by Barkat, along with several sheikhs from the Hebron area, relies on civil, economic, and security cooperation with Israel, and will include the establishment of a joint industrial zone extending over more than a thousand dunams near the security fence, which will employ tens of thousands of Palestinian workers.
