SadaNews - The International Committee of the Red Cross stated on Tuesday evening that the damage to a health facility such as the Nasser Medical Complex in an airstrike on Monday morning, resulting in the death and injury of medical personnel, journalists, patients, and first responders, is unacceptable.
The committee reiterated the necessity of respecting and protecting medical facilities, journalists, and first responders, as stipulated by international humanitarian law. They should never be attacked, and all possible measures must be taken to support their work and ensure their safety.
In its statement, it noted that the Nasser Medical Complex is one of the last major hospitals still operational in southern Gaza, providing critical and specialized medical services to thousands of patients in an area where only a limited number of health facilities remain amidst ongoing hostilities.
The statement added: These airstrikes lead to casualties and the destruction of vital facilities needed by patients who have hardly any safe refuge left. The Nasser Medical Complex is a hospital that receives cases from the Red Cross field hospital and other medical units, and it is essential to ensure its continued operation and accessibility for both patients and medical staff.
The committee urgently called for the respect and protection of everyone who plays a vital role in preserving the lives and dignity of people amidst armed conflicts.
