Maduro: "There is no chance" for America to invade Venezuela
SadaNews - Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro considers that "there is absolutely no chance" for the United States to invade Venezuela, following Washington's deployment of five warships in the Caribbean under the pretext of combating drug trafficking.
Maduro stated: "There is no chance of their entering Venezuela," affirming that his country is prepared to defend "peace, its sovereignty, and territorial integrity."
In a speech before army units, he added, "Neither sanctions nor blockades, nor psychological warfare, nor encirclement have succeeded. They have failed and will continue to fail," according to Agence France-Presse.
Maduro consistently warns that the United States seeks to invade his country to overthrow him and "change the regime." However, the United States has never threatened to invade Venezuela.
The Venezuelan president claims he has activated a "special plan that involves deploying more than 4.5 million armed members of a national militia to support the army in order to counter any potential American invasion," although experts question this figure.
In response to the American military presence in international waters, Venezuela has deployed naval forces and reconnaissance drones in its territorial waters.
Washington, which accuses Maduro of running a drug trafficking network, has designated the cartel known as the "Cartel de Los Soles" as a "terrorist organization," and has recently doubled the financial reward for capturing the Venezuelan president to $50 million.
Agence France-Presse reported seeing an American destroyer in Panama at a port located at the entrance to the Pacific Ocean.
Venezuela's ambassador to the United Nations, Samuel Moncada, sent a message to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urging him to request the U.S. government to "cease its hostile actions and threats permanently, and to respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of Venezuela."
